loved most of the main story and some of the characters. BUT and notice the big but. For a start these kids are 17 and still in school. OK it's Britain so they would be in sixth form. Then Harlow says she has to attend school or her gram will get fined or sent to prison which is wrong. That is for kids still in high school up to Yr 11. Not seventeen and in further education. Really the author should have made this a college story. I found the whole bullying scenario to be overdone and the way Harlow contradicted herself every other sentence annoying. One minute she loves English almost as much as history then a chapter later art is her favourite... Too many inconsistencies and dragged out to completely enjoy the story.

Over all its not a completely bad story and could have been better. (less)

Malik Carter Brother series Book 1 edition by Lisa Helen Gray Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book was a real struggle to get through. Not only because it clearly wasn't edited (or just edited very badly), but because the main character Harlow is just so weak and immature.
The book had definite elements that reminded me of the Slater brother series by L.A. Casey, but that series is so much better.
When I started this story it had me see some similarities regard 5 brothers and the hard life their past was and the females that fall in love with them as L. A. Casey's Slater Brothers series. So if anyone has read those you will love this book as well. The characters development is SICK and chemistry is off the charts. I covered a range of emotions while reading this book. I have a feeling that I'm going to enjoy every book within this series of the Carter boys. So stop wasting time and get this book started cuz you won't be disappointed!
This book was not my favorite. The main character went through a lot and at times it felt like to much. Malik has a very abusive past which explains some of his behaviors but not enough of them to treat others the way he did. He was very all over the place. It also does not help that the teen drama was very poorly written. It was hard to get through without wanting to throw my e-reader across the room because of the lack of consistency in the book.
Somehow magically I just ended up seeing this book and thought it looked interesting and so decided to read it. HOLY FREAKING CRAPOLA am I glad that I did. First off though make sure when you read this book you have plenty of time to finish it in one sitting! I literally started it before work (worst mistake ever!) I did absolutely nothing at work except want to read this book. (I'm a kindergarten teacher so this was really not recommended) This book completely swept me off my feet and I freaking want a Carter brother for myself. I mean yes they are in high school and the love emotions are deep but two people who can go through something so tragic and come out on the other side deserve to find love and peace at young ages! Harlow is amazing! I know she is a character but I can only hope that I would have that kind of courage at my age to go through what she did! Malik is amazing too, I mean so protective of Harlow and his siblings and will do anything to protect them! LOVE IT!!! Honestly the feels this book sends me is crazy and I will definitely be recommending it to anyone and everyone!!!!!

I have never read any books by this author. I decided to try this one after reading the blurb for it. I was not disappointed. I've found, in many books, authors tend to shy away or gloss over events that are emotionally painful or gruesome. This author was able to convey the scenes along with emotions attached to them. While the scenes weren't in very much depth, you should be warned that there are DEFINITELY possible triggers in this story.
I find they're hard to get into. It's the whole knickers thing just blows it for me. Anyway, I wasn't even expecting to want to finish this book. I figured I would get 25-30% in and get really tired of it......however, I found myself SHOCKED that I couldn't stop reading. I was hooked. Outstanding writing on a very important and sad subject. I'm so addicted to these Carter brothers. And I'm really glad I gave this book a chance....even though I had to read the word knickers. Anyway, I'm off to read Manson's story now. I suggest everyone out there grab this book and get caught up.

One thing I would like to ask the author to do, if she reads these.....more of the male MC voice. That one little chapter was a mean tease. You gave him a good voice, and I'm sad we didn't get to experience him first hand earlier and throughout the whole book. Not that this didn't work. I just prefer dual POV because I feel both characters in the story. That's not to say I wasn't feeling Malik, because I most certainly was feeling Malik and Mason and Myles, and Maverick, and let us not forget Max.
Harlow Evans had to move away from everything she knew when her parents were brutally murdered. Starting a new life with a Grandmother she doesn't know Harlow is anxious to see how she will fit into this new life. Harlow's life becomes rocky when she is targeted by the school bully but she happens o catch the eye of Malik Carter her next door neighbor.

Five Carter brothers come to Harlow's side to protect her. However with Malik, she has captured the heart of of the brother who does not date. Malik feels like Harlow is his light in a world of dark. He has had a lot of pain in his own life, that only his brothers share. Now he has found a reason for hope, Harlow.

This is a story that broke my heart. The bullying is front and center in the story. Harlow is trying to adjust to life without her parents and this is just another hit she can't deal with. Malik is a wonderful hero, he is intense but his love for Harlow shines bright. Loved all the characters and cannot wait for more. His brother Max is quite the bad boy, look forward to his story in particular.
